Breastfeeding pain defeat me not – Cheryl’s story

My first child I got past the sore nipple stage to feed sucessfully, my second child I was unable to get past the pain and gave up so when pregnant with my third child I decided I would try anything available to me. I had great success with avent breast shells (not to be confused with shields). I used this in conjunction with a lanolin nipple cream. They keep your nipple moist (healing quicker and no pain when baby latches on, which helps perfect latching position pain free). They protect nipple from materials rubbing on them and they help stop engorgement as the milk leaks into the shell and you then tip it out. They also catch milk whilst you are feeding which you can then store in a bottle so no expressing needed for a few emergency bottles. I bought two sets for this purpose so I could have a set sterilized and ready to go at each feed (I would just swap one on the side I wasn’t feeding on to catch fresh milk). They are just a great product. No one I told them about knew of them, not doctor, midwife or even chemist. This is why I am writing this to hopefully help others. Why be in pain if you don’t have to. I tried npple shields but they still hurt me. I don’t think I would have been able to breastfeed with out them. My son Cayden is now 8 months old and we are still going strong.
